Prada isn’t exactly known as a sports brand. It’s a century-old Italian luxury fashion house that is popular for its understated and classic style. On the other hand, Adidas is almost synonymous with sports. The Adidas and Prada collaboration goes into the next round with two brand new colorways of the A+P Luna Rossa 21 performance shoe, which is the most limited and advanced sneaker to come out of the collaboration so far.
After introducing the A+P Luna Rossa 21 in a clean white-based version when it was launched last year, the shoe is now back this season with Mgh Solid Grey/Matte Silver/Red and Core Black/Red colorway. The A+P Luna Rossa 21 is a hybrid shoe that acknowledges both Prada and Adidas’ past, nodding to the AC75 Luna Rossa boat that, in turn, played into why these shoes are sustainable and environmentally conscious and look towards sailing as a whole for inspiration.
Although they may look the same, both pairs of sneakers serve different purposes. The grey variation was created as a lifestyle sneaker for sailors to use (it was worn by the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team as they won the Prada Cup) while the black was crafted specifically to represent the brands’ legacies.
As suggested by its name, the “Mgh Solid Grey/Matte Silver/Red” iteration comes with tones of matte gray throughout. Composed of recycled materials, the PRIMEGREEN upper is complemented by a transparent E-TPU outer shell that reveals the iconic Three Stripes on the laterals. Marrying style with functionality, the shoe also features an EVA tongue with a speed lacing system. The laces are narrow at the bottom and wider at the top to prevent tied knots from coming loose. The shoes are rounded out with Adidas’ perforated BOOST midsole. Maintaining the same details, the Core Black/Red design is dressed in all-black with Prada’s iconic red logo found on the heel signifying the shoe falls under Prada’s Luna Rossa category. The shoes are packaged in a sleek co-branded box that slips inside of a water-resistant pouch bag.
Adidas and Prada have changed the game when it comes to performance sneakers, merging Adidas’ knowledge of performance gear and sportswear with Prada’s historically stylish aesthetic to create the perfect pair of sneakers.
