Adidas Originals and LEGO continue their partnership, creating an all-new version of a legendary sneaker. The two brands have collaborated in the past so it’s no surprise to see them coming together again, not with one but with two projects that highlight a three-stripes icon—the Adidas Superstar.
The Superstar is undoubtedly one of Adidas’ footwear icons, made famous by hip hop veterans Run-DMC in the 80s, who wore the sneakers on stage and even dropped a song titled “My Adidas” about the design. Much-loved by a long list of famous figures including Jay-Z, Victoria Beckham, and Jonah Hill, the likes of A Bathing Ape, Blondey McCoy, and even The Simpsons have collaborated on limited-edition versions of the Superstar over the years.
This release is particularly special as it includes a custom take on a wearable version, as well as a buildable toy brick version complete with shoelaces and a shoebox. In this never-seen-before LEGO offering, you can create the iconic sneaker from LEGO bricks to make a collectible display that’s sure to spark conversations. The brick version includes the iconic Adidas Originals Superstar sneaker graphics, shell toe shape, trefoil logo, and serrated 3 stripes mark. The set also includes 17 extra LEGO bricks so users can decide to build either the right-foot or left-foot sneaker. The model measures over 12cm high, 27cm long, and 9cm wide with a display stand and plaque. This model will be appreciated by anyone who loves Adidas and streetwear collectibles, as well as LEGO fans.
As for the wearable version, the real-life shoe dons a simple black-and-white design with LEGO’s signature blocks adding contrasting textures. The Three Stripes, mermaid-shell toebox, and heel tab come in brick form, while the rest of the upper is constructed with white leather. The sneakers are available in adult and junior sizes.
To celebrate the creativity and spirit of reinvention that’s inherent to the LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar model, the LEGO Group asked six inspiring and diverse creatives to customize their version of the brick-built sneaker and now invites all fans to do the same, uploading their expressions on social media using the hashtag #builtbyoriginals. The LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar brick version (P2700) will be available at LEGO and Adidas stores, Adidas.com starting July 30.
