Following the initial installation of the “In Our Shoes” video series that was first launched in New York City last fall, TOD’S second installment of the campaign sees the energetic performance of Red Velvet’s Joy in Tod’s Tabs Sneakers.
Joy is a member of the South Korean K-pop girl group Red Velvet. She made her debut in 2014 with four other members, Irene, Yeri, Seulgi, and Wendy, and has gone on to pursue acting as well, landing roles in television shows The Liar and His Lover, and Tempted. She debuted as a solo artist earlier this year with an EP, Hello.
The minute-long video starts with a solo performance by Joy, juxtaposed against a gorgeous sunset over the Seoul skyline. It then segues into a group performance backed up by Kwon Young-Deuk and Lee Hyun-Ik, both fierce dancers in their own right, before bringing us up to a sky-high helipad with a fantastic view of the city’s iconic Namsan Tower. The video conveys a fresh modern feel. Dance becomes the strongest voice and the performers give a strongly positive vibe in this video.
The setting itself is symbolic: Formerly an ex-oil reserve in the 70s—a period of intense industrialization in South Korea—the site has shed its past and been repurposed for use as a cultural park. About the Tabs Sneakers, as seen in the video, this pair stands out with their sophisticated, hybrid design designed by Tod’s Creative Director Walter Chiapponi. Each sneaker is made of calfskin and suede and comes with the type of luxurious details you already expect from the Italian house—the iconic Gommino pebbles on the heel counter and suede trimmings with ultra-clean graphic lines. The sneakers are Chiapponi’s nod to the sports sneaker.
