Few events in music are as momentous as a new Coldplay album, and the British band’s new record Music Of The Spheres is shaping up to rock 2021 on its October 15 release. As if we weren’t hyped enough, Coldplay has released their much-anticipated collaboration with Korean pop juggernauts BTS.
My Universe, which was written by Coldplay and BTS and produced by Max Martin, is now available worldwide to stream/download. It’s a candy-sweet confection and totally catchy.
This song isn’t the first time the band has enlisted the help of Korean talent in their music. Their last single Higher Power saw the London band collaborate with Korean modern dance group Ambiguous Dance Company for its music video earlier this year. BTS has long had a deep appreciation for Coldplay’s music as well.
Last month, BTS member Jin revealed on a live stream that there will be an announcement about working with a foreign artist. “I’ve been a fan of them since I was young and Taehyung has taken a polaroid pic of us together, which I keep on the back of my phone.“
The boyband had also covered Coldplay’s Fix You for MTV Unplugged back in February, where Coldplay gave a resounding stamp of approval—tweeting “beautiful” in Korean upon the video’s release. The song’s official lyric video features handwritten lyrics from both groups—in both English and Korean.
Coldplay has also teased the song’s Dave Meyers-directed official music video, as “coming very soon”. My Universe follows Coldplay’s worldwide hit Higher Power as the second single to be taken from the band’s forthcoming album Music Of The Spheres.
