Longchamp‘s famous cuir de Russie—Russian leather—has long been a familiar feature of its collections, not least because it forms the flap and handles of the iconic Le Pliage bag. For Spring/Summer 2022, however, not content with playing a supporting role, this emblematic material steps into the spotlight and lends its firm structure and distinctive grain to the season’s must-have shape: the bucket bag from the new “Cuir de Russie“
This is not just any bucket: this “Cuir de Russie” bucket bag owns all the qualities to become the perfect summer basket bag. Firstly, its size: large enough for everyday essentials, but small and light enough to be dangled from the hand, wrist, or elbow by its generously rounded handle. Secondly, its colors: a palette of six shades, including three jewel brights—yellow, orange, and green—alongside a gorgeous garnet red, a burnished brown, and a beautiful jet black. Lastly, its (minimal) hardware: a pale gold-tone press-stud referencing the codes of Le Pliage, with which the otherwise open bag can be snapped shut, securing its contents and inside flat pocket.
