The Montblanc 1858 Iced Sea Automatic Date collection is now available in a limited-edition box set that includes two timepieces from last year – the green and blue editions – and the latest novelty from this year in glacier grey. Each model is different from previous editions, featuring a colored laser engraving of a different view of the Mont-Blanc: the blue model displays a picture of the Aiguille du Moine, the green one depicts Les Drus, and the grey model shows Les Grandes Jorasses.

Montblanc’s Laser Engraving

Each panorama of the Mont-Blanc is achieved by structuring the titanium caseback with a laser to create the relief of the image. The texture and color of the engravings are also achieved by laser, creating authentic 3D renderings that provides depth and realism.

The Montblanc Presentation Chest

All three timepieces come in a chest that has a granite-like base, representing the rock of the Mont-Blanc Mountain, while the top comes in Plexiglas with the relief of the Mont-Blanc massif encased within, made of transparent resin. The beauty of Plexiglas also allows a view of the three differently colored timepieces beneath, making it well-suited for collectors.

All about the Montblanc 1858 Iced Sea Automatic Date Timepieces

The timepieces come in 41mm stainless steel cases and are powered by automatic movements that indicate the hours, minutes, seconds, and a date at three o’clock. Each dial is inspired by the Mer de Glace, the Mont-Blanc massif’s largest glacier, and gives the impression of looking directly into the ice thanks to a special dial fabrication technique called gratté-boisé.

In keeping with their sporty design, they are all certified diving instruments, conforming to the ISO 6425 norm. In addition to this important safety certification, each timepiece has undergone the Montblanc Laboratory Test to ensure that it is shock, magnetic, temperature, and water- resistant (approx. 30 bar) and that its fasteners are reinforced for enhanced security.

The timepieces also need to be visible in all conditions. For this, Montblanc has incorporated white Super-Luminova® on the hands, indexes, and dot at 12 o’clock, which all glow in a luminescent shade in blue low light, keeping with the glacial theme.

The Montblanc 1858 Iced Sea Automatic Date Coffret is limited to 191 pieces as a nod to the first three numbers of the date the Montblanc logo was created in 1913. This magic number is also the height of the Mer de Glace, which is 1913 meters high. So, 191 sets of 3 pieces, for those who like to understand the thinking behind the numbers. Like everything in watchmaking at Montblanc, nothing is left to chance.

The Montblanc 1858 Iced Sea Automatic Date Coffret comes with a range of straps that are interchangeable (including an additional black rubber strap) and will be available exclusively in Montblanc boutiques.
