Vision Express donates 4M worth of eyewear frames, ophthalmic and contact lenses, and other visual solutions to Manila Central University (MCU).

Vision Express., Philippines’ largest optical retailer and eye care advocate, handed over 3,000 ophthalmic lenses, 1000 boxes of contact lenses, and 400 pairs of eyewear frames to Manila Central University College of Optometry on April 20, 2023.

The handover ceremony was led by the optical retailer’s Managing Director, Neelam Gopwani together with their HR Associate Director Miakka Lim, and MCU’s Vice President for Planning and External Affairs Dr. Renato C. Tanchoco, Jr., and Dr. Angelo C. Maduli, Academic Vice President. 

“Vision Express has always been committed to helping everyone, every day see with perfect vision. We are proud to be working with organizations such as MCU to provide solutions so more people can get the care they need. It’s a huge honor for us to be able to support our future optometrists and give back to the community.” says Neelam Gopwani.  

The donation will primarily be used for academic and training purposes. MCU College of Optometry will also be extending the usage for when they conduct community outreach programs to various communities in the country where underprivileged citizens are in need of corrective eyewear.

“Three years from now, the World Health Organization will declare an epidemic for Myopia, especially among the younger generation. We’re very much delighted to support Vision Express in its mission to provide a better quality of life for Filipinos through eye care. “ Dr. Renato Tanchoco, Jr. shares. 

According to the World Health Organization’s Report on Vision, an estimated 2.2 billion people suffer from vision impairment including near/farsightedness, glaucoma, cataracts, and error refractions. WHO Regional Adviser for Blindness, Dr. Andreas Mueller, said about 1.1 billion or more than half of those suffering from eye vision problems can be treated, while vision loss can be prevented.

“A pair of glasses is so much more than some frames and lenses – being able to see clearly can change someone’s life. We are honored to do our part in helping set up younger generations for future success.” Gopwani added. 

Aside from MCU, Vision Express has been partnering with different schools and universities in the country to further their advocacy of training future optometrists and in turn provide the best optical care to the Filipinos.
