Rakuten Viber, a global leader in private messaging and voice-based communication, has launched its Caller ID feature in the Philippines. This feature helps Filipinos identify unknown callers, allowing them to receive or reject calls as they wish, while protecting themselves from spammers. This feature is particularly useful for important calls, such as medical emergencies, where it’s crucial to pick up the call. This feature is designed to help users stay safe and secure on the internet.
Users can opt in to activate the capability to identify all calls received, including if the caller is not using Viber to call. Existing users (with Viber 19.3.0 or later) can enable Caller ID under ‘Calls and Messages’ within the app’s Settings menu.
With Viber’s Caller ID feature, phone numbers that have been reported by other Viber users as a source of spam will be displayed with a spam alert. Once a call has ended, the user will be provided with post-call actions such as redialing, messaging, and saving the contact or even reporting it as a spammer.
“We are excited to provide this additional layer of protection and awareness to our users,” says Ofir Eyal, CEO of Rakuten Viber. “Caller ID allows us to give users peace of mind, nobody likes receiving spam calls. This is another step we are taking to put more control in the hands of the users.”
The feature is currently available to Android users in select territories including the Philippines and will be gradually rolled out globally over the coming months.
