UNIQLO Philippines has partnered with ABS-CBN Foundation (AFI) to launch the Citizen Science Program 2024, aiming to contribute to a sustainable future for people and the planet. The initiative, part of AFI’s Bantay Kalikasan, seeks to empower communities through collaboration between residents and scientists, underscoring UNIQLO’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact.
UNIQLO and AFI’s tie-up, which started in May 2024, engages communities in Mabini, Batangas, to participate in various initiatives to protect the sea’s natural resources, together with the help of AFI’s network of scientists. Through the Citizen Science program, members of the communities will be trained to monitor coral reefs and marine protected areas. The program will also develop a Natural Resources Management plan that the community can quickly implement, along with a system for household waste management and livelihood opportunities for the people therein.
UNIQLO and AFI formalized the partnership in a Memorandum of Agreement contract signing at UNIQLO Global Flagship Store in Glorietta 5 on May 30. Present during the event were ABS-CBN Foundation Managing Director Roberta L. Lopez-Feliciano, ABS-CBN Foundation Bantay Kalikasan Program OIC Sarah A. Agcaoili, UNIQLO Philippines Chief Operating Officer Ms. Geraldine Sia.
“This partnership with ABS-CBN Foundation reaffirms UNIQLO’s commitment to harnessing the Power of Clothing to preserve the environment for future generations. Through the Citizen Science program, we can equip communities with the knowledge and capacity to help preserve the environment and provide opportunities to help them with their livelihoods,” said UNIQLO Chief Operating Officer Geraldine Sia during the Contract Signing.
