MOONTON Cares and the MPL Philippines Press Corps are resuming their Esports Journalism Program for the second year, starting at the National University Laguna from June 6 to 7. Over 100 participants from MPL Philippines and the Philippine Esports Press Corps will learn about the industry. Manila Bulletin’s Reynald Magallon will discuss sportswriting basics.
“We are thrilled to bring the MOONTON Cares Esports and Gaming Journalism Workshop to NU Laguna and its students who aspire to be journalists,” says Keith Niño Medrano, MOONTON Games Regional Public Relations Manager.
Michelle Lojo from Philstar.com will focus on Media Ethics, highlighting the values that define journalistic integrity. At the same time, ABS CBN News’ AC Coloma will tackle Mobile Journalism and help students capitalize on their mobile devices as a powerful tool for spreading information.
“With these workshops, we hope to provide quality training for the participants by partnering with the esteemed members of the MPL Philippines Press Corps, who can provide insightful lectures,” Medrano added.
Meanwhile, ONE Esports associate editor Jules Elona will headline the program’s second day by emphasizing the importance of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) in journalism and how it can enhance the visibility and reach of esports content.
Dethan Dario will lecture on using Artificial Intelligence as a tool in journalism, focusing on its role in content creation and distribution, while XC Enriquez of Esports by Inquirer.net, Clutchpoints Gaming, and esports.gg will provide insights into journalism in today’s TikTok age.
“At MOONTON Games, we believe that Esports is for everyone, and our goal is to help students seize the opportunities in the industry by honing them to be the next batch of esports and gaming journos. We thank the MPL Philippines Press Corps and National University Laguna for this meaningful collaboration.”
Meanwhile, NU Laguna Head of Linkages Dr. Narro Navarro said, “The National University Laguna community is thrilled to announce the implementation of one of the key activities in partnership with Moonton Cares – the e-sports journalism workshop. As we embark in this journey, students will learn from industry experts about writing an engaging content, conducting insightful interviews, and an overall understanding of the e sports ecosystem. National University Laguna and Moonton Cares will continue to work hand-in-hand to promote skills upgrading and continuous improvement for the future captains of the industry.”
This will mark the second consecutive year that MOONTON Games and the MPL Philippines have joined forces to promote esports journalism, following three successful legs conducted last year.
Students from Ateneo de Manila University, University of the Philippines-Diliman, University of Sto. Tomas, Adamson University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Lyceum of the Philippines University, National University-Laguna, and Cavite State University participated in the three-part program, which took place during Season 12 of the MPL PH.
Eventually, this was extended as MOONTON Games and the MPL PH Press Corps went to Adamson University and the University of the Philippines – Diliman, respectively.
Educational workshops and partnerships are part of the corporate social responsibility programs of MOONTON Cares, the company’s philanthropic arm, to promote positive societal, humanitarian, and environmental change to build a more sustainable future for the next generation.
