Alfred Sun 孙英豪 releases highly-anticipated debut single ‘VAMPIRE (重生)’ – a shimmering, dance-infused Chinese pop number that celebrates new beginnings.
‘VAMPIRE (重生)’ marks the first piece of original composition that Alfred puts out, but this multifaceted Singapore artist who has more than 300,000 social followers, is certainly no stranger to the entertainment scene. At 19, he was offered an idol trainee contract by top Korea music label, JYP Alpha Entertainment, and spent his time in South Korea training relentlessly to be an elite in dance, vocals, and stage performances. In 2017, Alfred emerged as one of the finalists on “The Voice of Singapore Malaysia”. With a desire to always learn and improve, Alfred went on to participate in China Youku male idol reality competition show, We Are Young in 2020, amassing him a strong fan base in China.
As an actor, Alfred’s works include LINE TV’s produced drama series show HIStory3 in Taiwan, and the successful Summerdaze which is Singapore’s very first BL thematic series. A sequel of Summerdaze has been confirmed due to its popularity and is expected to be produced in 2022 / 2023 where Alfred will play the main lead.
Dancing is a huge love of Alfred, and he approaches it without boundaries. By fusing masculine and feminine dance moves, Alfred recreates the normality of dance styles into an embodiment of power and sensuality and blends it to his unique pop cinematic melodic sounds.
‘‘I feel that there are many different sides of me, which is why I aspire to try on different and new concepts, to express myself visually through my craft and style’’, shares Alfred.
VAMPIRE (重生)’ encapsulates the concept of rebirth and a new beginning in the singer-songwriter-dancer’s journey after making the decision to release his very first original music.
Sensual in its subtlety and co-written by Alfred, the track is a portrayal of desire and temptation; an insatiable desire to manifest his shine. When writing the song, Alfred envisions a figure rising from self-captivity, emerging stronger and evolving from the past, almost like a resurrection. The song signifies the journey of Alfred meeting a variant version of himself in another universe.
“Every wheel of life will inevitably have an end. There is no need for sadness as it is also the start of a new beginning. Just like darkness which can be seen as bringing things to an end. The past is history, the future is what is new and to come. Freedom is what I want. I am ready to channel and release all my desires and energy to perform, to dance at the first light of each dawn”, says Alfred.
The track marries traditional Chinese elements, like zithers and overtone singing, with a hyper-modern dance beat with powerful brass and gliding 808s.
The music video is a masterpiece that showcases Alfred’s strong charisma – a subtle yet powerful aura and dance style. Conceptualized, choreographed, and directed by Alfred himself, the music video brings the audience in immersive audio and visual experience into life, death, and rebirth.
Reborn and brimming with a new beginning, 2022 will see Alfred take flight with new music on his life experiences and a studio EP in the making.
