Japanese sports equipment manufacturer Asics has launched a new capsule of sustainable footwear and apparel.

Slated as the brand’s “most planet-friendly cross-category collection to date”, the Earth Day Pack has been created using an approach that saw around five tons (which is the equivalent of 25,000 t-shirts) of textile waste recycled into new shoes.

While the shoes are new, the silhouettes are familiar as the Earth Day Pack updates the Gel-Nimbus 23, GT-1000 10, Glideride 2, Gel-Nimbus 23, and Tarther Blast with a re-engineered mesh that adjusts to the wearer’s foot, providing comfort and stability.

The greenest option is always to get the most possible out of what you have, but it’s always good to see more sustainable options when it comes to sports shoes like forgoing the usual materials for eco-leathers and recycled textiles that need replacing regularly.

This is not Asics’ first foray into recycled materials. The company used the same technology to produce a line of sportswear for athletes in the postponed Tokyo Olympic Games, and last month released a pair of MetaRide and Gel-Quantum 360 TYO sneakers made from textile waste gathered in Japan.

Each sneaker comes in a cream/putty colorway, which is an earthy, neutral tone. The color choice was intentional as it requires less use of water, ink, and dye. The shoes are also adorned with a sunflower logo and a seed graphic that represents Asics’ commitment to “planting seeds of a brighter future,” the footwear brand shared.

The Earth Day Pack, which also includes apparel, is now available in all Asics stores. To know more, visit https://www.asics.com/ph/en-ph
