What do you get when you cross sports apparel Champion, luxury automaker Lexus and designer Salehe Bembury? A collection that challenges the mobility and design standards in both the automotive and fashion spaces.
Lexus’ future-looking mobility innovation and Bembury’s signature nature-inspired design ethos come together for this capsule that challenges the status quo in the automotive space. In celebration of the next generation of Lexus wherein electrification is at the forefront, the collaboration brings together two distinct, yet synergistic, design approaches that come to life on the blank canvas of Champion’s most popular Reverse Weave styles.
Serving as a key inspiration of the collaboration is the 2022 Lexus NX and its most technological changes for the brand in more than three decades. The all-new Lexus NX sets a new standard in the luxury crossover market with class-leading innovations in electrification, intuitive technology, performance, and design.
“This collaboration was a new type of challenge for me. It is both challenging and rewarding to explore design outside of footwear and allowed me to think outside of my usual realm of design,” Bembury said in a statement.
A trio of genderless items—a T-shirt, hoodie, and cap–make up the Lexus x Salehe Bembury x Champion capsule. Fittingly reimagined here, of course, is the Lexus logo itself by way of incorporating elements of Salehe’s signature style. Using a blank canvas of Champion Reverse Weave pieces, each item has been incorporated with elements of Bembury’s identity including his logo and signature fingerprint.
The pieces will also feature graphics inspired by the Lexus brand and its NX vehicle, reimagining the brand’s logo and designs into clothing. The ensemble has been dyed dark grey using a custom oil wash process, influenced by the Lexus NX exterior options. An English and Japanese wash tag boasts the three contributors. As for the cap, Bembury’s iconic fingerprint logo can be found on the brim, joined by another hit of triple co-branding and secured with metal buckle adjustments.
In a time when industry mash-ups are allowing leaders to join forces, the collaboration merges different design disciplines to create a modern collection rooted in heritage for fans across the three brands.
