Japanese watchmaker Seiko is releasing a line of stunning new watches that combine classic design with modern flair and sporty panache. These extraordinary works of art go far beyond the scope of traditional watches, making them suitable for both fashion-forward and risk-taking individuals.
Tracing back to its roots
True to its name, the Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Limited Edition (SRPK17) celebrates the collection’s 55th anniversary. This watch captures the essence of youthful energy and impeccable reliability. Powered by the renowned Caliber 4R36 automatic movement, it embodies the perfect balance between style and functionality.
Re-creating the first watch from 1968, this limited edition piece features the original Seiko 5 Sports logo at the 12 o’clock position in honor of the 55th anniversary, while the word “SPORTS” appears at 6 o’clock, symbolizing a legacy of excellence. Encased in a specially designed box that exudes a vintage feel from the period Seiko 5 Sports was born, this is a true statement piece for fashion-forward individuals who appreciate timeless design. Available in Seiko boutiques and select retail stores worldwide in a limited quantity of 15,555.
Celebrating sport at the highest level
Inspired by Seiko’s rich heritage in sports timing, the Prospex collection introduces four new solar chronographs that seamlessly merge precision with style. Powered by the innovative solar chronograph Caliber 8A50, the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer 1/100 sec Solar Chronographs (SFJ001, SFJ003), Analog Quartz Chronograph 40th Anniversary Limited Edition (SFJ005), and the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23 Limited Edition (SFJ007) all offer unrivaled accuracy, measuring elapsed time in 1/100th of a second increments.
Meticulously crafted, each watch features a distinct sub-dial configuration for easy differentiation between time-of-day and chronograph functions.
The luxurious gold accents and textured dials of the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23 Limited Edition pay homage to Seiko’s longstanding partnership as the official timekeeper of the World Athletics Championships that began in 1985 and continues to this day, with the upcoming 19th edition in Budapest, Hungary from August 19 to 27, 2023. The dial features a texture that evokes the surface of the running track, while the hands and outer ring of each sub-dial are in gold coloring to call to mind the first-place medal. This creation embodies the spirit of sportsmanship while exuding an air of sophistication.
The Analog Quartz Chronograph 40th Anniversary Limited Edition features a grey-toned dial and reddish-orange hands, paying respect to the world’s first analog chronograph that displayed elapsed time in increments of 1/100th of a second, which was introduced by Seiko nine years later, in 1992. Both commemorative watches are available as limited editions of 4,000 pieces in Seiko boutiques and select retail stores worldwide.
Embark on a nostalgic journey
The Seiko Prospex 1965 Diver’s Re-creation Limited Edition (SJE093) is a limited-edition re-creation of the iconic 1965 Diver’s Watch, affectionately known as the legendary 62MAS. This timepiece effortlessly combines retro charm with modern enhancements, paying homage to Seiko’s pioneering legacy in diver’s watches. The case back bears the same dolphin emblem as the 1965 original.
Faithful to its heritage, the watch boasts the same design and dimensions as the original while incorporating contemporary advancements. It has a box-shaped sapphire crystal and 200 meters of water resistance for more excellent reliability. The text on the dial is faithful to the style of the original yet updated to reflect current specifications. The hands and all 12 markers, including the marker by the date window and the pip on the unidirectional bezel, are filled with LumiBrite to enhance legibility in low-light conditions.
Encased in a special box that echoes the retro feel of the ’60s, this watch exudes vintage allure. Expected to be available by August 2023, only 1,965 of these timepieces are being manufactured, another nod to the original year of its release.
Seiko invites individuals with a discerning lifestyle, a passion for exploration, and an appreciation for impeccable craftsmanship to experience the allure and functionality of these extraordinary timepieces that seamlessly blend heritage with contemporary living.
