“With customers becoming more discerning in their purchase decisions, we see heightened awareness amongst consumers making choices in favor of conscious products, and support for firms that stand for more than profit,” said Tony K Tan, Founding Director of Smthgood. “The decision to build Smthgood arose after we realized that consumer buying behaviour continues to grow and shift away from a strictly transactional experience, and move towards one that is lead by purpose, discovery, inspiration, and customization. We intend to give a gamified experience for discovering conscious fashion through user-generated Lookbooks that are backed by our rewards system. “As a specialized marketplace, we also want to recognize small to medium-sized firms focusing on doing good from across Asia Pacific,” he added.
LOOK GOOD: Explore shoppable style inspirations that help users “Look Good”, building awareness around ethical consumerism
The platform features an easy-to-use virtual styling editor, the Lookbook Styling Tool. Users can create shoppable Lookbooks (“Creators”) on which other users can then browse to gather fashion styling ideas from. To express their inner stylist and get creative, Creators can explore various tools including different backgrounds, stickers, editable text boxes, as well as templates categorised in different styles to create their Lookbooks. Other users can then buy products from the platform’s marketplace directly from Creator’s Lookbooks. Creators are rewarded with Smthgood coins, exchangeable for shopping cashback whenever a purchase is made from their Lookbooks. All these create a discovery-led and gamified shopping experience where users can both inspire and get inspired.
DO GOOD: Discover conscious brands that strive to make a difference, make better shopping decisions, and “Do Good” for the environment and communities
A sizable number of small to medium sized brands from across Asia-Pacific focused on doing good have signed to come onboard Smthgood progressively. Some of the notable brands featured on the platform include Thamon from Thailand which uses fallen leaves instead of leather to make bags and Outfyt from Singapore which crafts activewear from fishnets and fabric scraps destined for landfills. Another notable brand is RŪPAHAUS from Australia, created by three sisters that amalgamate sustainability fashion with their Indonesian heritage and Australian birthplace. The platform features a multitude of well-priced items broadly in the range of US$20 to US$200. All brands on the platform have been carefully curated to align with Smthgood’s values based on three factors: what the item is made of, how the item is made, and the impact of the finished item on the environment. Smthgood aims to provide more personalised user experiences with fashion AI tagging and uplift the conscious brands on its platform.
FEEL GOOD: While “Looking Good” and “Doing Good”, “Feel Good” throughout the discovery and gamification-led journey on Smthgood
Smthgood empowers its users in their ethical consumerism journey by expressing their style and showcasing how one can look good in conscious fashion. The platform encourages participation and rewards Smthgood Coins through various ways such as creating new Lookbooks, scoring likes on their Lookbooks by other users on the platform and winning weekly themed challenges (launching in February 2023). Users are also rewarded with Smthgood coins for simply buying from Smthgood’s conscious fashion marketplace. In addition, with a carbon offset programme in place – an annual initiative that enables users to shop while doing good at the same time – Smthgood is committed to purchasing 1,000 carbon credits annually, an equivalent of 47,619 trees being planted, thereby returning the feel-good factor to its consumers.
