Take a first look at the JW Anderson x Uniqlo SS21 collection
By Dexter Francis De Vera
We are no stranger to the JW Anderson and Uniqlo collaboration. Since their first partnership in 2017, the London-based designer widely revered for its ‘genderless’ design, has revolutionized contemporary fashion by infusing its gender-bending styles with the retail giant’s design ethos. The duo continues the partnership with its Spring/Summer 2021 collection of versatile, warm weather essentials created with the theme of hope for new beginnings and brighter days is scheduled to launch this month.
Conceived with an artisanal approach, the collection features blanket stitching on work shirts, T-shirts, and accessories adorned with wildflower embroidery. “I was thinking of spring when I was working on this collection. We were all staying inside, and I was looking forward to when we could venture out again. I also wanted to incorporate a feeling of craft, as it’s very important to me,” says Anderson.
There is an overall playful sense of ease captured in a variety of T-shirts, blouses, hats, tote bags, and other items that feature wildflower embroidery accents that varies accordingly to the collection’s color palette of khaki, brown, and ivory. Other noteworthy touches are Bohemian smocking on women’s dresses and skirts underlines the collection in materials such as cool denim, linen, and cotton seersucker. Signature JW Anderson craftsmanship shines through in the stitchwork and simple silhouettes of this relaxing collection.
The JW Anderson Spring/Summer 2021 collection with Uniqlo consists of 15 items for women, 12 items for men and 3 goods items drops in stores on April 23 at Uniqlo Manila Global Flagship and selected stores.
