Taguig City, Philippines — Since its inception at The Grove by Rockwell in Ortigas in 2017, Bueno Tapas & Wine has emerged as a premier destination for aficionados of Spanish cuisine and fine wine. With the recent opening of its second branch in Bonifacio Global City in December 2023, this culinary gem continues to captivate diners across Metro Manila. The restaurant is a proud venture of Garlic & Peppermill Food Company, which has also successfully launched Tartufo Ristorante, now with three locations in the area.

Nestled in One Maridien Tower, at the intersection of 9th Avenue and 27th Street, Bueno Tapas & Wine offers a vibrant dining experience steeped in the rich culinary traditions of Spain’s Basque region.

Under the expert guidance of Executive Chef Kennedy Alfonso, who honed his skills in San Sebastian, Spain, the menu is a testament to authentic Spanish flavors. “Ninety percent of our ingredients come directly from Spain,” Chef Kennedy emphasizes. “This commitment ensures that our dishes remain true to their origins while also incorporating fresh local produce.”

The inception of Bueno Tapas & Wine was a serendipitous collaboration between Chef Kennedy and Melvin Uy, co-managing partner of Garlic & Peppermill Food Company. “We didn’t plan to open a restaurant at first,” Melvin recalls, “but our passion for food and wine inspired us to create a space that honors Spanish culinary traditions.”

The food

The best part? The food at BUENO TAPAS & WINE is superb. I am not kidding when I say the food was slipping off my fork due to its creamy, buttery texture. As I tasted it, it was a symphony of flavors, each dish blending beautifully together to create this delicious experience that was also like home. I felt my toes curl with happiness as I took bite after bite.

Signature dishes that define the Bueno experience include:

  • Arroz Meloso de Rabo de Toro: A risotto-like paella featuring oxtail, presenting a contemporary twist on classic Spanish flavors.
  • Estofado de Res: Eight-hour braised beef, renowned for its tenderness and richness.
  • Paella Iberico: A luxurious paella crafted with the esteemed black-hoofed Iberico pig.
  • Gambas Al Ajillo: Fresh shrimp sautéed in garlic, olive oil, and chili, delivering a bold Mediterranean taste.
  • Biscoff Tarta de Queso: A velvety cheesecake that strikes a perfect balance between sweetness and texture.

Chef Kennedy highlights the importance of catering to Filipino palates while preserving Spanish authenticity. “We enhance the flavors slightly to suit the local taste while maintaining the essence of each dish,” he explains.

The ambiance at Bueno Tapas & Wine is both elegant and inviting, making it an ideal venue for gatherings. “Our rebranding emphasizes a more refined atmosphere with a vibrant vibe,” Chef Kennedy notes. “It’s about creating a holistic experience that our guests truly appreciate.”

At Bueno Tapas & Wine, every meal is a celebration of Spanish culture, offering a delightful culinary journey for both seasoned enthusiasts and newcomers alike. Experience the essence of Spain right in the heart of Manila—your palate will thank you.
