As part of its grassroots program, MILO® once again launched its Barangay Liga to support and empower young athletes at the barangay level. Held on April 29 at the Alapan II-A Covered Court in Imus, Cavite, the MILO® Barangay Liga launch brought together students from ALAPAN II A Elementary School, St. Edward School Lancaster Imus, Hipolito Sakilayan School, and Mary Calkins Integrated School who took part in the basketball activities of the event. The event is made possible through the partnership with regional Department of Education offices nationwide.

MILO Barangay Liga MILO Once Again Launches Its Barangay Liga

Apart from supporting local athletes in basketball, MILO Barangay Liga intends to provide kids with a platform that enables them to develop their skills, confidence, and sportsmanship among their peers. The Barangay Liga can also be an avenue where Champions in Life can be discovered. And with 1,500 student attendees at the launch, MILO is off to a great start in helping kids unlock their full potential and start their Champion journey with MILO.

Lovely was spotted with her 12-year old son Vince Matthew and shared their experience at the event. Vince explained his inspiration in developing his basketball skills by stating that he was influenced by his uncles who taught him how to play basketball. Lovely shared, “For me, importante bilang magulang na suportahan natin ang sports na napili ng anak natin kasi papasok doon ang self confidence nila … disiplina, dahil may coach silang papakinggan.”

As basketball is said to be the country’s favorite sport, the court was filled with enthusiasm and excitement among kids as well as supportive parents in the crowd— showing that an athlete’s success springs from a solid support system. Just like the supportive parents, MILO also looks to continue supporting young kids in sports. Head of MILO Sports, Carlo Sampan shared during the event, “We know that Filipinos love basketball kaya sumusuporta tayo sa mga proyekto ng SK at ng mga LGU para naman pataasin ang physical literacy ng ating mga kabataan.”

Basketball teams and enthusiasts joined in as the court opened to do basketball drills such as passing, dribbling, and shooting with the guidance of Imus local coaches.
