Montblanc has developed a new fountain pen-filling mechanism, the Traveller, to enhance the convenience, reliability, and enjoyment of writing. The innovative mechanism allows easy filling through the barrel of the Meisterstück Traveller Limited Edition 1924, marking the company’s 100th anniversary of the Meisterstück. The Traveller mechanism, developed by Montblanc engineers for five years, draws ink into double tanks through the cone instead of the nib, resulting in increased ink capacity and filling speed. The mechanism is designed for on-the-go operation and has double the ink reservoir capacity of a conventional Meisterstück.
“Montblanc has always focused on evolving the writing experience through technological ingenuity and creative vision, applying its innovations to addressing any challenges associated with the act of writing. As more and more people re-discover the joy of writing by hand, it was time to explore a different way to fill the writing instrument that was even more simple, and would offer new benefits such as delivering longer writing time while remaining leak-free. Going from a turning mechanism to a push mechanism is a significant evolution, breaking new ground in the culture of writing just as our legendary Meisterstück did one hundred years ago,” says Laurent Lecamp, Global Managing Director Montblanc Watches and Writing Instruments.
The design of the limited centenary edition – a Meisterstück 149 model – upholds the aesthetic standards of its antecedents. A coral-colored precious resin and signature gold-coated fittings refer to the original color palette of the earliest Montblanc writing instruments. The signature gold-coated cap top crowned with the Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl tells the story of the company’s founding ideals through the intricate engraving of the Mont Blanc massif, inspired by the artwork on the original Meisterstück packaging. In celebration of the 100th anniversary, the number ‘100’ is engraved beneath the years ‘1924’ and ‘2024’ on the commemorative solid Au 750 gold nib, handcrafted by master craftspeople for the optimal writing experience.
The new push mechanism expresses the pioneering heritage of Montblanc and the Maison’s ongoing ambition to advance writing technology. With ease of use at the heart of the innovation, the writing instrument can be filled in a few simple steps. After removing the cone at the base of the writing instrument, it is pushed down on a special ink adapter on the ink bottle, creating the pressure difference needed to allow the ink to flow upwards into the tank. The cone is then placed back on the barrel and turned until the fountain pen is in writing mode. A novel cleaning tool can also be attached to the barrel via an adapter after removing the cone to clean the writing instrument thoroughly.
Housed inside an elegant black leather box, the limited edition set includes the Montblanc Meisterstück Traveller Limited Edition 1924, the new ink adapter, two ink bottles featuring black and blue ink, a cleaning tool, and a cone adapter, as well as a black leather pen pouch inspired by early Montblanc leather accessories from the Maison’s archive.
Montblanc Meisterstück Traveller Limited Edition 1924 is available from October 2024 at selected Montblanc boutiques worldwide.
