AirAsia Philippines Country Head of Communications & Public Affairs and Spokesperson Steve Dailisan said, “AirAsia’s objective is not just to provide low-cost world-class service to our guests, but also to be responsible stakeholders and spearhead environmental protection activities which will also compensate for our carbon emission.”
According to One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization focused on global reforestation, a tree absorbs an average of 10 kilograms, or 22 pounds, of carbon dioxide per year for the first 20 years. The trees planted by AiraAsia Allstars and its partners are expected to reduce a significant amount of carbon footprint.
Other initiatives carried out by AirAsia to reduce its carbon footprint include the utilization of Airbus 321neo which has a lower fuel utilization of up to 20%. The introduction of A321neo to AirAsia’s fleet in 2021 resulted in the reduction of up to 11,175 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent to 186,250 trees planted per year.
“We laud AirAsia as they exemplify their dedication to walk the talk in achieving the goals of offsetting carbon emissions. We hope this will serve as an inspiration to other corporations as well to take their responsibilities seriously in our fight against climate change,” Nayong Pilipino Foundation Executive Director Gertie Batocabe.
The tree planting activity at the New Seaside Drive protected area which is 4.4 kilometers away from the Manila International Airport was also attended by celebrities Joj and Jai Agpangan, Andrei King, Ezra Domingo, and Jerald Cabuñag. Other AirAsia partners who joined the tree planting activity include SIP Purified Water, VIDA Sparkling Drink, Yobick Yoghurt Drink, and TravelOnline.
