A Dynamic Laptop For the Extraordinary People
The first thing you’ll notice once you open the ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED (UM5401) is its OLED display. The pictures are incredibly vivid, and it seems as if that’s what God meant when he first created colors: black is black, blue is blue, and it seems as if we’ve hit a psychedelic rainbow of intensity.
It’s exciting for us to just stare at the screen because it really gives off this feeling that this was what colors are meant to look like. And it’ll probably pay off when we finish our work, because we can now see our artworks in full HDR color.
Overall, this feature is great, but have an impact on battery life – nothing too bad, but something you should consider when purchasing it.
But, let’s start from the beginning.
Neat display with touchscreen panel
The OLED screen is 2.8K resolution 550 nits 16:10 screen ratio which is a big step-up from the traditional full HD panel. This explains why the colors are so vivid and everything just seems so bright. It has the intended effect of making the text more striking, which appeals to us because it’s great to read and write on this laptop. There is some glare that comes with the colorimeter, but nothing that should really interfere with work.
Two features to definitely take note of are its TUV certification for low blue light and flicker-free function for eye protection. This is great for those who spend hours working in front of a laptop as they prevent eye strain. We noticed that we were able to be more productive as we didn’t have to take frequent breaks as we usually would with other laptops.
We’ve also noticed that scrolling is actually quite nice (with a 0.5 ms response time) and typing is seamless. There’s nothing bulky about the keyboard here, and the 180∘ ErgoLift Hinge design allows for comfortable typing, and added functionality such as improving the cooling of the laptop. All of us were also able to type at our normal speeds without worry.
Despite its rather bulky box, the laptop itself is light and neat, weighing only 1.4 kg. It’s perfect for those who like to carry their laptops from office-to-office and it’s even great for those who like to carry their laptops under their arms. It’s compact and powerful and should be great even for normal office work.
Now, let’s go into something really cool. This laptop has – wait for it – an amazing touchscreen panel. This is a wonderful addition if you’re a multi-tasker. Aside from being able to type as you would a traditional laptop, you can also touch the screen or with the accompanying ASUS Pen to open different apps or windows or for some quick note-taking
Great performance
This is for the techies out here; this laptop is a powerhouse of best-in-class features including, up to AMD® Ryzen™ 9 5900HX CPU, 1TB PCIe SSD and 16 GB LPDDR4X RAM, up to Intel Gigabit Wi-Fi 6, Military Grade (MIL-STD 810H) quality test standard, full I/O ports including USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C® and standard HDMI for multitasking purposes.
A good battery life
Aside from being light and compact, the laptop also has a good battery life, of up to 16 hours. Take note though that this may fluctuate depending on usage – using the laptop on high brightness may make the battery run out faster.
Another thing to note is that the webcam is pretty decent even without an external source. It also comes with an electric webcam shield for instant privacy (a pretty cool feature, we must add – since all of us writing had to buy an external shield for our laptops) Because of its OLED display, the picture resolution is great and really captures every detail.
Our verdict
The ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED is a great laptop for those who want to see things in vivid colors. It seems like a perfect match for working professionals and those starting their first job. Its touchscreen panel is also great for those who like to multitask on their work.
