The earlier A-series models from Samsung have never had great photographic capabilities or excellent performance. Even though they were quite balanced devices for their price, competing against other smartphone brands from China was not always easy for them. However, things have changed, and the hero of today’s review seeks to prove this statement. Presenting the Samsung Galaxy A22 4G.
The Galaxy A22 4G is a value pack featuring a vibrant display, fantastic battery life, decently-powered gaming chipset, and Samsung’s patented fast charging technology. It’s one thing looking at a phone from the specs sheet but the story takes a 180-degree turn when it comes to testing the phones in real life. That’s why we test out the new smartphone and made this hands-on review that you can refer to.
First, the design. The phone has the usual features of an entry-level Samsung handset with slightly thicker bezels (most notably around the base of the screen) and a teardrop central notch for the front-facing camera. The presentation of the color scheme in the plastic construction seems to concede, but nevertheless, it has the classic charm of a premium Samsung handset. In addition to the mesmerizing squirrel camera module, the sleek design adds a feather to the cap. But what makes the layout more impressive is the elegant shade available in Black, White, Mint, and Violet. When it comes to the buttons and ports, there’s a side-mounted fingerprint-scanning power button on the right, a volume rocker on the right as well. You get a SIM card tray on the left; a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB-C port, a primary mic, and a bottom-firing loudspeaker at the bottom (of course). The overall exterior does not yield a cheap look instead provides a subtle feel of something grand.
Samsung Galaxy A22 comes with a quad-camera setup. The primary sensor captures quality shots in daylight. We find all the shots impressive and the sensor retained most details, colors optimization was on-point and the output was saturated. Shutter speeds are slightly on the slower side but the focus is pretty much instant. It processes better skin tones as well. You can go up to 10x digital zoom with the primary sensor. And since the primary sensor has OIS, you can shoot stable videos without any issue. In terms of low-light shots, the phone’s dedicated night mode basically brightens up the shot with a lot of exposure but doesn’t add much in the way of detailing.
The Galaxy A22 is powered by a beefy 5,000 mAh battery. It takes approximately two hours to juice up the battery. We were able to take it for more than 4 days in a row although it depends on one’s usage. You can fully enjoy watching videos, streaming on Netflix, and checking your social media feed without any problem. Plus, you can play lite games confidentially without worrying about battery life. In essence, the Galaxy A22’s battery lasts longer without a hitch.
The technical characteristics of the A22 are the Mediatek Helio G80 processor along with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and the Mali G52 MC2 graphics accelerator that has been partnered with a fast and vibrant 90Hz Super AMOLED screen. Of course, the chipset is far from the flagship solutions, but it copes with its responsibilities for the smooth functioning of Android 11 and the most demanding applications. The volume of internal storage was 64GB or 128GB, but the lack of which can always be compensated for with MicroSD cards.
Our verdict: The Samsung Galaxy A22 4G is a phone which gets the basics right. Great screen? You got it. Decent performance? Present. Reasonably good daylight camera? Hard to find better. Software experience? Satisfactory. Battery backup? Adequate. Pricing? Affordable. All said and done, Samsung fans will have a lot to like in the Galaxy A22.
